TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Soccer star David Beckham is pitching his idea to bring a Major League Soccer franchise to Miami.
Beckham on Tuesday made a whirlwind visit to the Florida state Capitol where he met with Gov. Rick Scott and top legislative leaders.
He said that “no promises” were made to him by anyone.
Instead, Beckham says leaders have told him they support his plan to bring an expansion team to Miami.
The former English national team captain added that he just wants a chance to tap into state funding like other professional teams have done. The Florida Legislature is advancing a bill this year that would create a process to rank future professional sports subsidies.
The plan announced Monday would have an open-air stadium with views of the bay and the downtown skyline.
