BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The Chittenden County Transportation Authority and the bus drivers’ union plan to attend mediated meetings this weekend to try to end a strike that is now in its sixth day.

CCTA says it received a written proposal from the union representing about 70 bus drivers Thursday morning.

Matt McGrath of the Vermont Workers’ Center tells the Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/1iNxefC ) that mediators will meet with negotiators at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location. He says mediators have asked the two sides not to talk to the media.

The drivers went on strike Monday after rejecting a proposed contract and a call by the company for binding arbitration.

The union says the most important issues separating the two sides are working conditions and discipline.
