MILWAUKEE — Buzz Williams is headed to Virginia Tech after six mostly successful seasons coaching at Marquette.
Virginia Tech athletic director Whit Babcock announced Williams’ hiring Friday night in a statement. He will be formally introduced at a press conference Monday in Blacksburg.
Babcock called Williams a “proven winner” with a strong track record of success.
Marquette thanked Williams in a statement for elevating the program in the Big East. The Golden Eagles finished 17-15 this year, ending their eight-year streak of NCAA tournament appearances.
Marquette interim vice president and athletic director Bill Cords says the school has already begun a search for new head coach.
