WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) - A former West Valley City officer will argue to get his job back next month after he was dismissed following an internal investigation.
Officer Shaun Cowley has an employment hearing scheduled with city’s civil service commission on April 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30.
Cowley was fired in September after the city and police department said they found he committed “terminable offenses” while working on the department’s now-disbanded drug unit.
Cowley was involved in the fatal shooting of an unarmed woman in 2012 that touched off a large-scale department investigation.
Investigators found officers on the narcotics squad kept souvenirs from drug busts and mishandled evidence.
Cowley’s attorney Lindsay Jarvis told The Salt Lake Tribune (https://bit.ly/1pf4zjF) that the department is making her client a scapegoat and failed to offer proper training.
