FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Former University of Arkansas men’s track and field coach John McDonnell has been elected to the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame.

The Texas Sports Hall of Fame announced McDonnell’s selection on Thursday.

McDonnell coached at UA for 36 years and led the Razorbacks to 40 national championships, 11 in cross country; 19 in indoor track; and 10 in outdoor track.

His teams also won the Triple Crown of a national championship in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track in a single school year a record five times.

McDonnell and others elected to the hall this year will be officially inducted on April 7 during a formal luncheon in Houston.
