CHICAGO (AP) - Comedian Jimmy Fallon has made good on his promise to plunge into icy Lake Michigan.

“The Tonight Show” host was dressed in a suit and tie as he ran into the frigid water seconds after Mayor Rahm Emanuel did the same thing. They both screamed and ran back out as the crowds cheered and bagpipes played.

The New York-based comedian agreed to make Sunday morning’s so-called “Polar Plunge” with Emanuel as a condition of the mayor appearing on Fallon’s show.

The annual event draws several thousand plungers to raise money for Special Olympics Chicago.

Fans of “The Tonight Show” host carried signs with pictures of his head. Some were dressed in costumes - including, appropriately, polar bears.

The air temperature was around 10 degrees, while the water was 32 degrees.
