BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. (AP) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s planned fundraising swing through Michigan is drawing criticism from Democrats.
Christie is raising money as chairman of the Republican Governors Association and is scheduled to attend association fundraisers in Michigan Wednesday. He’ll also be the special guest at a fundraiser that day for Senate candidate Terri Lynn Land in the Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Hills.
Democrats around the country are trying to link the Christie administration’s decision to clog traffic along the George Washington Bridge last fall with Republicans. The Michigan Democratic Party says Land should cancel her appearance with an “ethically-challenged” Christie.
Land spokeswoman Heather Swift says Democrats are hypocritical. She says they didn’t call for Vice President Joe Biden to cancel a fundraiser for Democratic Senate candidate Gary Peters despite Obama administration “scandals.”
