FLORIDA UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DROPS TO 6.1 PERCENT

Florida’s unemployment rate continues to dip. New numbers released Monday show that the state’s unemployment rate in January was 6.1 percent. That’s the lowest the rate has been since June 2008. There are an estimated 581,000 Floridians out of work. Florida’s unemployment rate remains below the national average of 6.6 percent.

JUDGE DELAYS DECISION ON BOND FOR MOTHER CHARGED WITH DRIVING CHILDREN INTO OCEAN

A judge is postponing a decision on changing the bond status of a pregnant South Carolina woman charged with attempted murder for driving her three children into the ocean off Daytona Beach. Judge Leah Case said at Monday’s hearing that she will postpone making any decision about Ebony Wilkerson until listening to more testimony next week.

BROWARD DEPUTY KILLS MAN

A Broward Sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a man who they say may have threatened a woman with a machete on Sunday evening. The woman pointed the man out to the deputy. The man took off in a truck and the deputy tried to stop him before the shooting took place.

TWO KILLED IN SPORTS BAR SHOOTING

Two men are dead following a shooting at a South Florida sports bar on Sunday. Miami-Dade police are investigating the shooting, which happened in Homestead. One man died at the scene while the second died a short time later at a hospital.

PLANE LANDS SAFELY MISSING PART OF WING

An Orlando to Atlanta Delta flight landed safely on Sunday. But it was missing a piece of its wing. Pilots had declared an emergency and the plane stopped on the runway at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
