PHOENIX (AP) - Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox and former Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon are scheduled to be interviewed in the coming weeks in a civil rights lawsuit against Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s office.
Depositions are set for Wilcox on March 24 and for Gordon on April 2.
The lawsuit alleges Arpaio’s office has racially profiled people, retaliated against critics and punished Latino jail inmates with limited English skills for speaking Spanish.
Arpaio denies the claims and calls the lawsuit a politically motivated attack by the Obama administration.
Wilcox is a critic of Arpaio’s immigration efforts and was the target of an unsuccessful corruption investigation conducted by the sheriff’s office.
In 2008, Gordon accused Arpaio’s office of unfairly singling out Latinos in its patrols and sought a civil rights investigation of the agency.
