Pakistani military forces have kicked off a ground offensive against Taliban militants who are holed up in a tribal border town with Afghanistan called North Waziristan.

The location is a known hotbed of terrorist activity and a reputed sanction for radicalized fighters.

The ground assault plan comes on the tail end of weeks of airstrikes against the terrorists in the same region, BBC reported.

Still, journalists on the ground say many of the militants likely abandoned the town before Pakistan soldiers arrived on scene, BBC said.

Monday, it was reported troops were going door to door to search out Taliban members, beginning with the town of Miranshah.
