The first case of swine flu has been found among the scores of illegal children who have been crossing into America at the Texas-Mexico border, leading federal authorities to ship 2,000 batches of vaccine to Lackland Air Force Base for administration.
The child came up from Central America and was diagnosed after he was taken from the border to the base, The Blaze reported. He had to be hospitalized, and now medical officials are trying to vaccinate anyone who may have come into contact with him.
It’s the first known diagnosis of H1N1 virus among the illegal children who’ve been swarming into America in recent weeks, said Rep. Louie Gohmert, in The Blaze.
“We are told the sick child was feverish for several days before being sent for medical treatment,” Mr. Gohmert said. “Having spent the weekend on our border, I can tell you that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is not taking charge of the undocumented children in any kind of reasonable time frame as they are absolutely required to do.”
The swine flu finding only fuels fears from law enforcement along the border who say the illegal immigrants are not being properly screened for diseases and contagious sicknesses before moving along to other facilities for holding across the nation.
