President Vladimir Putin has put down his gun — figuratively speaking — and asked parliamentary members to rescind a resolution that gives him the ability to order military troops into Ukraine.
On March 1, Mr. Putin had petitioned Russia’s parliament for the power to send in the troops. But Tuesday, he had a change of heart and on Wednesday, parliament sealed the deal and rescinded his military right with a formal vote, The Associated Press reported.
Mr. Putin said he asked for the resolution because he wanted to make a clear expression of support for the peace talks that were ongoing in Ukraine, AP reported.
Mr. Putin also doesn’t want more sanctions added to his administration or country — something that was due for discussion at the upcoming European Union meeting.
