President Obama took a quick side-stop for lunch at a Chipotle Mexican Grill in downtown Washington on Monday and spoke with a handful of fans about his Summit on Working Families ideas — but it was his questionable manners that stole the show.

While ordering at the counter, Mr. Obama reached over the glass partition that separates the customer from the food and food preparers, and dangled his arm and pointed a finger just a few inches above the containers of food — from which all customers are served.

Social media was quick to catch the etiquette — and food safety — breach.

Presidential photographer Pete Souza first tweeted, with the accompanying picture of Mr. Obama and his dangling arm: “Pres Obama orders his burrito bowl at a Chipotle today before lunch w/ participants in the working families summit.”

Other Twitter followers soon after expressed blunt dismay.

Cammie Pham tweeted: “[H]e’s doing a big no no. Picking over the glass!

“POTUS is one of those people who reach over the glass,” tweeted southpaw. “Say it ain’t so. MT @petesouza: Obama orders his burrito bowl.”

And Christopher Hayes — from the left-leaning and normally Obama-supporting MSNBC — tweeted in reply: “@nycsouthpaw @petesouza yeah, that’s not cool.”
