The nonpartisan Government Accountability Office found that those with fake ID cards can still get Obamacare — the latest glitch with the president’s signature health care reform.
Undercover investigators were able to obtain taxpayer-subsidized health care coverage in 11 of 18 attempts, The Associated Press reported.
The GAO was set to tell a House committee of its findings on Wednesday — and also that those using the fake IDs to obtain the coverage were actually still receiving the benefits, Fox News reported. AP received an advance copy of the printed remarks that GAO was scheduled to tell the House Ways and Means Committee on Wednesday.
The findings are just the latest glitch over Obamacare, which suffered a massive black mark during the rollout of the government’s website, HealthCare.gov. This latest weak link seems to hail from call centers that handle applications from those who aren’t able to enroll in the system online, AP reported.
Already, conservatives on the committee are calling out the latest problem.
Chairman Dave Camp said the GAO finding is just more proof that Obamacare is rife with “incompetence, waste and the potential for fraud,” AP said. And Sen. Orrin Hatch said: “Obamacare is working really well — for those who don’t exist.”
Meanwhile. the White House put out a statement through spokesman Aaron Albright: “We are examining this report carefully and will work with GAO to identify additional strategies to strengthen our verification processes,” AP said.
