For the second time in just a few weeks, President Obama has made the claim that he’s not very partisan — and that, in fact, his favorite president hailed from the Republican Party.
Speaking to a Democratic National Committee fundraising crowd, Mr. Obama said Tuesday evening: “I will say, for all the Democrats around here, I’m not very partisan,” The Blaze reported.
“The truth is, my favorite president is the first Republican president — he’s a guy named Abraham Lincoln,” Mr. Obama said, The Blaze reported. “If you look at it historically, Dwight Eisenhower built the Interstate Highway System. And Richard Nixon founded the EPA. And historically, we have had bipartisan cooperation on big issues.”
Mr. Obama said the gridlock in Washington, D.C., is not due to the GOP in and of itself — but rather to the particular Republicans who are currently in office.
“The problem is not the Republican Party, per se. The problem is this particular group right now — that have kind of gone off the rails,” he said, The Blaze reported.
Just a few weeks ago, Mr. Obama said similarly at a rally in Texas. Then, he claimed, “[I’m] not really that partisan of a guy,” The Blaze reported.
At Tuesday’s event, Mr. Obama also denied watching media reports because “whatever they’re reporting on, I usually know.”
