Thor, the hammer-wielding god of thunder depicted in the Marvel comics universe, will soon be a woman.

“This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita,” said Marvel comics writer Jason Aaron in a statement reported by Mediaite. “This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before.”

The women of “The View” gave a thumbs-up to the announcement during their morning broadcast.

“It’s a huge day in the Marvel Universe. Thor, the god of thunder, he messed up,” Whoopi Goldberg said, The Huffington Post reported. “He is no longer worthy to hold that damn hammer of his. And for the first time in history, that hammer is being held by a woman.”

Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby created Thor in 1962 as a character based on Norse mythology who was sent to Earth by his father Odin to learn the character trait of humility. The new female Thor will be blond, The Huffington Post reported.
