Five-year-old Marsha is dying from skin cancer, but her new owners say they’re going to spend her last days making her happy: moving her through a sort of doggy bucket list that includes hiking, camping and visits to her favorite tall-grassed park.
“We’ve taken her camping, fishing, she loves to play in tall grass,” co-owner and Colorado resident Judy Jaros told KUSA. “We just decided we’re going to hike and camp, we go fly fishing … i just fell in love with her. My husband too. We’re just giving her one fun day after another.”
Ms. Jaros is a volunteer dog walker at the Humane Society in South Platte Valley, and fell in love with Marsha, KUSA reported. But Marsha was in bad shape — beaten, battered, a bullet in her elbow.
“So we adopted her,” Ms. Jaros said, in the media outlet. “Her prognosis isn’t good, but we just decided she doesn’t have an expiration date” and have given her a sort of “canine bucket list” of things to finish before she dies.
“She had a really hard life,” Ms. Jaros said, KUSA reported. “She deserves a chance. And yeah, it might break the bank, but it’s money. Whatever. She’s brought us more joy, she’s just priceless to us, so it was worth it.”
