More than 100 residents in a southern Oregon community have taken flight in the face of a fast-moving wildfire that’s already set several homes ablaze.
The fire erupted near the Sprague River and began spreading mid-afternoon Sunday. Just a few hours later, the blaze had already taken over three square miles, The Associated Press reported.
The Red Cross has set up a shelter for the dozens who have been displaced — mostly, those in the Moccasin Hill neighborhood, who have seen an undetermined number of their homes destroyed.
A spokeswoman for the South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership said officials won’t be able to get an accurate count on the number of structures that have been destroyed until they can contain the fire. But so far, more than 100 have been told to pack up and leave from the local community, AP reported.
