Chinese hackers infiltrated a database that had personal information of federal employees, including employees that had applied for top-secret security clearance, The New York Times said.
The Times reported that hackers broke into the Office of Personal Management computer network in March.
A senior Department of Homeland Security official confirmed the attack and told the newspaper that investigators had not “identified any loss of personally identifiable information.”
A “senior American” official also told The Times that the attack had been traced back to China, but it was unclear whether it had any connection to the government.
