HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut officials are planning a daylong forum on child sex trafficking and how to better fight it.
The state Department of Children and Families has scheduled the event for Wednesday at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford. It coincides with National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month.
More than 200 people are expected to attend including DCF officials, state and national law enforcement authorities, judges, medical providers and school officials.
The FBI has declared child prostitution a “persistent threat” and says a joint effort by federal, state and local authorities has resulted in more than 2,700 children being rescued and more than 1,350 people being convicted since 2003.
Earlier this month, a 16-year-old girl at a Windsor Locks motel was rescued from what authorities called a multistate child prostitution ring.
