PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - The state’s Republican gubernatorial candidates are weighing in on whether gambling should be expanded in Illinois.
The four contenders spoke at a forum Thursday evening in Peoria that lasted an hour and a half.
Winnetka businessman Bruce Rauner (ROW’-nur) says local governments should be in control of gambling expansion.
State Sen. Kirk Dillard of Hinsdale and State Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington want to make sure the horse-racing industry is protected if lawmakers approve any additional casinos.
State Treasurer Dan Rutherford of Chenoa (ROOTH’-ur-furd) says he’d be open to discuss gambling expansion but said that any package must have appropriate oversight.
Rauner has used his hefty war chest to broadcast his positions on the airwaves. The other three candidates have used a series of debates to reach potential voters.
