WASHINGTON (AP) - The National Cathedral in Washington is hosting a celebration in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The celebration is being held Monday at 2 p.m. and will include performances by spoken word artists, the gospel choir of Howard University, the Washington Youth Choir and singing groups from both the National Cathedral School and the St. Albans School.

Anyone attending the celebration is being asked to bring a new children’s book or non-perishable food item to donate.

King preached his last Sunday sermon at the National Cathedral on March 31, 1968, just days before he was fatally shot in Tennessee on April 4.
