EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) - More students than ever before are applying for admission to Northwestern University.

In a news release, the Evanston university says it has received 33,200 applications for the class of 2018. That is a 1.3 percent increase in applications from last year and it marks the 11th straight year when the number of applicants has climbed.

That steady increase is making it tougher and tougher to gain admission to Northwestern. In 2007, 27 percent of the students who applied were admitted compared to less than 14 percent admitted for the class of 2017.
