RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Gov. Terry McAuliffe is tapping Virginia Tech President Charles Steger (STEE’-gur) for the state’s Commission on Higher Education Board.

The appointment announced Friday is effective June 1, when Steger steps aside in Blacksburg for Tech’s new president, Timothy Sands. Steger will be joining a panel that evaluates and recommends candidates for university boards of visitors.

Steger has been president of Tech for 13 years. He was among five appointments to the commission announced by McAuliffe.
