BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham police say they’re charging a woman with making a false report about being kidnapped.

Authorities say Gabriell Coleman is being charged with a misdemeanor count of filing a false police report.

The woman called relatives on her cell phone on Tuesday saying she had been kidnapped by two men from Jefferson State Community College. Police found her a short time later.

Police say the 18-year-old Coleman later admitted that she hadn’t been kidnapped. They say she made up the story to spend time with friends and made a similar claim while she was in high school.

Court records aren’t yet available to show whether Coleman has a lawyer.
