CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) - A traveling Vietnam Memorial will be on display in Carbondale for four days this September.

Officials from the Shawnee Detachment No. 812 of the Marine Corps announced last week that an 80 percent-scale model of the Vietnam Memorial Wall will be on display from Sept. 11 through Sept. 14 on the SIU practice football field south of Saluki Stadium.

It’s built of lightweight aluminum panels that resemble granite and contains every name etched on the original in Washington D.C.

The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan reports that (https://tinyurl.com/on72rg9 ) the wall is part of an American Veterans Traveling Tribute.

Mark “Skip” Cosgrove is a senior vice commandant and chairman of the Vietnam Wall Committee. He says they’ve been working on the project since April and are “thrilled” at Southern Illinois University’s support.
