LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - State Sen. Johnny Key of Mountain Home says he’s applied for the job of vice chancellor of government relations at the University of Arkansas.
Key is a Republican and currently is chairman of the Senate Education Committee.
He said in a statement to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/NoYxB3 ) on Saturday that “the level of consideration” given to his application will “certainly have an impact” on whether he files for re-election.
The filing period for state and federal offices begins Monday and ends March 3.
The UA job is currently held by Richard Hudson, who announced in November that he’s retiring effective July 31. UA records show Hudson is being paid $202,000 this fiscal year.
Key was elected to the state Senate in 2009 after serving in the House from 2003-09.
