SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio is dispatching a female chain gang to pick up trash on city streets Super Bowl Sunday.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says 15 women will be tasked with cleaning state trust land near the intersection of Scottsdale Road and Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard in north Scottsdale.

Arpaio is calling the group a DUI chain gang and says they will remind the public the consequences of drinking and driving.

Arpaio says between the Super Bowl and the Phoenix Waste Management Open golf tournament, he expects more people will be consuming more alcohol.

The women who are on the chain gang have been convicted of various crimes.

Arpaio says inmates volunteer to be part of the gang.
