ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia Senate Majority Leader Ronnie Chance has announced plans to retire at the end of his term.

Chance addressed his Senate colleagues Wednesday, talking about the importance of family in announcing his decision not to seek re-election.

A father of three young children, Chance has served in the Senate since 2005 and is one of the top GOP leaders in the Georgia General Assembly.

Chance, a Republican from Tyrone, previously served as floor leaders for both Gov. Nathan Deal and former Gov. Sonny Perdue. In his speech, Chance thanked his colleagues, who responded with a standing ovation.
