PHOENIX (AP) - Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says a sheriff’s posse member wounded in a Dec. 31 shooting is in a coma.

Phillip Grigg was shot during a scuffle with a robbery suspect when Grigg tried to assist a Phoenix police officer after a collision between Grigg’s truck and a car driven by the robbery suspect.

The police officer also was shot but he’s out of the hospital while he continues his recovery.

According to KNXV-TV (https://bit.ly/1iLNCfR), Arpaio says Grigg remains in critical condition and that the 63-year-old has being doing well at times only to have that change.

In Arpaio’s words, Grigg “needs a lot of prayers.”
