New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie faced off against a woman during a town hall meeting Tuesday when she accused him of playing music by Bruce Springsteen ahead of his arrival, against the singer’s wishes.
“I was under the impression, I thought I heard that Bruce asked that none of his music was played at your events because he didn’t believe in your politics,” Sandy Booklet told Mr. Christie during the Long Branch town hall meeting, according to nj.com.
“You’re wrong,” Mr. Christie responded, saying that he and Mr. Springsteen were friends. “In fact, I saw Bruce just a week and a half ago —”
“When you were dancing with Bon Jovi in the Hamptons?” Ms. Booklet interrupted.
Mr. Christie was at a benefit in the Hamptons over the weekend, but was actually filmed dancing on stage with Jamie Foxx.
He corrected Ms. Booklet saying, “If you’re going to be cute we should get the story right.”
Ms. Booklet continued to push the argument but Mr. Christie insisted that she was mistaken.
“You’re now expressing your politics and your objection, and that’s fine. Don’t put it in Mr. Springsteen’s mouth,” he said.
He then asked technicians to play Bon Jovi after the meeting, to audience laughter.
Mr. Christie, who is rumored to be considering a presidential bid in 2016, said he wept tears of joy when he met Mr. Springsteen in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
However, last year, Mr. Springsteen appeared on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and the two sang a duet spoofing the “Bridgegate” scandal.
