LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) - Gov. Terry McAuliffe says Virginia can’t afford to ignore climate change.

The Democratic governor’s remarks were greeted with applause Tuesday at an environmental symposium at VMI in Lexington. He also said he plans to reactivate a climate change commission to advise him on what can be done in protect Virginia, according to The Roanoke Times (https://bit.ly/1itQrRd).

The state’s Hampton Roads and Tidewater regions are especially vulnerable to climate change and rising sea waters. McAuliffe says federal weather and atmosphere experts put the Hampton Roads region second only to New Orleans in terms of climate change threats.
