LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Los Angeles Police Department officer has been ordered to perform 900 hours of community service for lying under oath during a 2008 cocaine possession case.
A district attorney’s statement says 40-year-old Manuel Ortiz was also sentenced Wednesday to three years’ probation.
He was convicted in February of one count each of conspiracy and perjury.
Ortiz was charged along with two other officers. The three were accused of lying about where and how the cocaine was recovered.
The drug possession case was dismissed after footage from the apartment building’s security camera contradicted the sworn testimony of the officers.
Former LAPD officers Evan Samuel and Richard Amio were both found guilty of conspiracy and perjury charges at trial in 2012.
