MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont House is set to debate boosting the minimum wage in the state from its current $8.73 to $10.10 per hour. But the big question is how fast to get to that level.

Gov. Peter Shumlin is pushing for the minimum wage to increase in stages and hit $10.10 in 2017. The House committee that drafted legislation on the issue is recommending an increase to $10.10 beginning next January, with annual increases tied to inflation after that.

As the House debates the issue on Tuesday, it is expected to consider an amendment offered by Republican Rep. Kurt Wright and others that would take the governor’s slower approach to changing the minimum wage.
