LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska lawmakers say they were able to make progress for working families this session, despite some setbacks.
Supporters gathered at the Capitol on Tuesday for a rally with Sens. Jeremy Nordquist, Tanya Cook and Heath Mello of Omaha, and Sen. Danielle Conrad of Lincoln. The senators touted several bills this year designed to benefit working families.
One of the bills passed gives flexibility to families using a child care subsidy. Another requires employers to provide a pay stub for employees.
Nordquist says Medicaid expansion will be a top priority for lawmakers next year. He says faith leaders, organized labor and others who supported the effort to raise the minimum wage from $7.25 to $9 are considering putting the issue on the ballot.
