RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe is the target of a new TV ad by Americans for Prosperity, a tea party nonprofit backed by billionaire conservative activists Charles and David Koch.
Americans for Prosperity’s Virginia chapter announced Monday that it will be airing TV ads statewide criticizing McAuliffe for his support of expanding Medicaid eligibility, a key part of the Affordable Care Act.
The governor and House Republicans are currently deadlocked on whether to expand Medicaid. The impasse has delayed passage of the state’s roughly $96 billion two-year budget.
In its ad, Americans for Prosperity says McAuliffe is “bringing D.C. gridlock to Virginia.”
Sean Lansing, state director for the group, said the ads would be running consistently during the foreseeable future. Americans for Prosperity has also aired radio ads criticizing McAuliffe.
