ATLANTA (AP) - The Southern Center for Human Rights is honoring two people for their contributions to the legal system.
The nonprofit organization will recognize E. Wycliffe Orr with its 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award; and Natasha Perdew Silas with the 2014 Gideon’s Promise Indigent Defense Award.
The organization said in a statement that Orr has made extraordinary contributions to justice and fairness in Georgia, including his efforts to create a public defender system in Georgia.
Silas’ honor is in recognition of her 20 years of service to her clients as a federal public defender and a lifetime of service to her community.
Both awards will be presented May 13 at the Southern Center for Human Rights’ annual Atlanta benefit reception at the Carter Center in Atlanta.
