DALLAS (AP) - An off-duty Dallas police officer has shot and killed a man who authorities say was discovered trespassing at a demolition business and began stabbing one of the employees.

Police say Sgt. Jackie Moore was walking into work at police headquarters Friday morning when she witnessed a confrontation nearby.

Employees of the business told police the man was found inside the company’s fenced lot and was told to leave. He then pulled a knife and repeatedly stabbed one of the workers.

Moore shot the unidentified suspect when he ignored orders to drop the knife. He died at the scene.

Police say the stabbing victim has injuries not considered life-threatening and will recover.
