CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - A lawyer for the Cranston police union says it will fight efforts by the city to fire a police captain suspended for ordering a ticketing blitz.

Acting Police Chief Kevin Barry suspended Capt. Stephen Antonucci, president of the union, on Thursday for allegedly violating police department rules and regulations. He allegedly retaliated against two City Council members who voted against a police contract.

City Councilors Steven Stycos and Paul Archetto say police issued an extraordinary 128 parking tickets in their wards in November, within two days of the vote. A state police investigation concluded no crimes were committed.

Union lawyer Joe Rodio tells WPRO-AM that the city “stretched the truth” to come up with what he calls “incredulous findings.”
