DECATUR, Ill. (AP) - A 22-year-old central Illinois man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree murder in the 2012 death of a man he robbed.

According to The Herald & Review (https://bit.ly/1hSJonG ), Douglas W. Taylor of Maroa (muh-ROH-ah) showed no emotion when he was sentenced Tuesday in Decatur in 23-year-old Justin Mentzer’s murder. Maroa is just north of Decatur.

Mentzer was stabbed with knives and a screwdriver, hit with a hammer and kicked by Taylor and another man, 22-year-old Terris Warnsley, in November 2012.

According to testimony Taylor and Warnsley went to Mentzer’s home to watch a movie but planned all along to rob him.

Warnsley has pleaded guilty to murder and will be sentenced July 3.

Leon Mentzer said his son’s death has destroyed his family.
