ATLANTA (AP) - Federal labor officials say they’re partnering with construction contractors, the Federal Highway Administration and others to educate workers on preventing on-the-job injuries and fatalities.
The safety stand down event is scheduled for April 7-11, which is also National Highway Work Zone Awareness Week.
Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials say contractors will stop work from 7 to 8 a.m. for work zone safety training sessions. OSHA officials say objects and vehicles striking workers are a leading cause of construction-related deaths.
Officials say several organizations including the Georgia Department of Transportation, the Georgia Highway Contractors Association and more are organizing the event.
