MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island bookkeeper is facing up to six years in prison after pleading guilty to charges she stole $316,000 from her employer.

Onesta Reyes pleaded guilty Thursday in Nassau County Court to grand larceny.

Prosecutors say that Reyes embezzled the money from a Great Neck-based contractor. The bookkeeper had access to the payroll system and inflated her yearly salary from $48,720 to $239,893.

She also reimbursed herself for more than $89,000 in phony expenses.

Reyes faces 2 to 6 years in prison when she is sentenced June 11. Prosecutors also intend to ask a judge to order her to repay the money she stole.

They say she used the money to buy clothing, shoes, and jewelry.
