MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) - A 48-year-old man has been arrested and charged with arson after a fire at the former St. Mary’s Convent building.
Marshalltown police say officers determined Monday that a burglary had occurred at the building before the overnight fire. No injuries have been reported.
Police say the man went to the police station a little after 3 a.m. to talk about the fire and soon acknowledged that he’d committed the burglary and set the fire and another on Saturday.
The man was arrested and charged with burglary and arson. He was identified as Van Gentry, of Marshalltown. Online records say Gentry remained in Marshall County Jail on Monday. Online court records don’t list an attorney for him.
