SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Sacramento State football coach Marshall Sperbeck announced his resignation Friday after seven seasons.
A statement from the school did not give a reason for the resignation.
Sperbeck’s teams posted a 35-44 record, including wins over Oregon State and Colorado.
Athletic director Terry Wanless says defensive coordinator Jody Sears, who joined the team this spring, has been named interim coach for the 2014 season. Sears was head coach at fellow Big Sky Conference school Weber State for the past two seasons and has been a defensive coordinator at Washington State and Eastern Washington.
Sperbeck came to Sacramento State after 15 seasons at Foothill College in Los Altos, Calif., where his teams compiled a 109-53 record and advanced to 11 junior college bowl games.
Wanless says the Sacramento State program made definite strides under Sperbeck.
