MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Wisconsin existing home sales fell 11 percent in March compared to the same month last year, and the chillier winter may be to blame, the Wisconsin Realtors Association said this week.

The spring selling season got off to a slow start, but things might improve along with the weather, said Steve Lane, the association’s board chairman.

Median sales prices nudged upward slightly last month compared to March 2013, rising 2 percent to $136,500, the Wisconsin State Journal reported (https://bit.ly/1f0yPQa ).

The first three months of the year are traditionally slow for home sales, with about 18 percent of annual sales in the first quarter, Lane said. Sales in the second quarter generally comprise 31 percent of the yearly total.

Real estate agents say home sales pick up as temperatures improve, not only because more buyers come out but because the landscaping becomes fuller and greener, making the entire home more appealing.
