ATLANTA (AP) - A public memorial service is planned for Saturday to celebrate the life of longtime WSB Radio and WSB-TV traffic reporter “Captain” Herb Emory.

WSB-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1gFnpzY) that the public memorial is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in east Cobb County.

Emory was helping at the scene of a car crash in Douglas County when he had a heart attack.

The 61-year-old Emory spent many hours a week in a helicopter hovering over Atlanta’s infamous traffic jams, offering words of support and empathy to frustrated drivers.

He had served as an Atlanta traffic reporter since 1971 and had been with WSB Radio and WSB-TV since 1991.

He was inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame in 2008.
