ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta firefighters rescuing a man from a house fire discovered that he had been stabbed or shot, and the case turned into a homicide when he later died.
Firefighters were called to the home in northwest Atlanta around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, and found a back bedroom engulfed by fire. Firefighters pulled the man from the room and quickly noticed several wounds to his upper torso. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators now believe the fire may have been set to cover up a violent crime.
Atlanta Fire Assistant Chief William Collier said it appears the blaze happened after the man was wounded.
WSB-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1jAey2Q) that detectives said his wounds may have come from a knife, but also may have been gunshot wounds.
