WARRENSBURG, Mo. (AP) - The head of public safety at the University of Central Missouri is leaving to become director of the National Center for Campus Public Safety in Burlington, Vt.

The Warrensburg school says Kim Vansell will begin her duties at the newly recreated institute on May 1.

Vansell will be the first director of the center, which was created with the help of a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. The center will work closely with the federal agency to provide resources for campus police chiefs, public safety directors and others at schools nationwide.

Vansell started at Central Missouri in 1983 as a part-time dispatcher. She became chief and director of safety department since March 2011.
