BURGAW, N.C. (AP) - A Pender County jail officer has lost his job following his arrest in Wilmington on a number of charges.

Sheriff Carson Smith said 22-year-old Charles Samuel Tomlinson was arrested on charges of driving while impaired, carrying a concealed weapon, reckless driving to endanger and leaving the scene of an accident. He has a court date of June 23, and it’s not known if he has an attorney.

Wilmington Police spokeswoman Linda Rawley said an officer saw an eastbound vehicle in the westbound lanes on Martin Luther King Parkway Thursday morning. When the vehicle was stopped, there was damage on the passenger side from what investigators said was an accident near the parkway’s Burgaw exit.

Smith said Tomlinson was fired Thursday night. He began working at the jail last November.
