HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) - A northwest Indiana physician has been sentenced to one year in prison on charges he failed to pay individual income taxes and employment taxes taken from his employees.

Federal officials say that 56-year-old Ronald Eugene Jamerson of Schererville was also ordered to pay $541,000 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service. That’s the total tax loss Jamerson owes for 2003 through 2008.

The ear, nose and throat surgeon pleaded guilty to one count of willfully failing to truthfully account for, collect and pay over employment taxes to the IRS in October under an agreement with federal prosecutors. He was indicted in June 2012.

Court documents say Jamerson deducted and collected federal income taxes and employment taxes from his employees’ paychecks but didn’t pay the employment taxes.
